Meat chickens have come to the farm! 34 of them. Cornish cross.. not so happy about what I've read about this breed, it's just not very natural, but we're giving them a try. They were 99c each at our feed store. Ready to butcher by 6 weeks of age!

Fuzzballs
On March 16th one of our dumped kitties gave birth to six little fuzzballs. School was pretty much canceled for the day as the birthing commenced and 5 excited children carefully observed and commented on each kitten's birth.
Now they're eleven days old, have opened their eyes and they're just as cute as can be. Not a day goes by without someone asking "Can we keep one?" and the answers is always... "Nope." LOL.

Pastured Pigs
We've been working for a while now to get our pigs out of their small enclosure and into the big pasture. We had to run electric fence first though to keep them in. We finally got it done and released the pigs. Can you say PIG HEAVEN? They were running all over the place and squealing for joy. It was very funny :)
Butterbelle is not quite sure what to make of them yet, but seems to be tolerating them. Our plan is to have a rotation system going after dividing our pasture into appropriate sections. Butterbelle will have the pasture first, and then when she moves onto the next one, the pigs will move onto the one she has just left. We'll have four or five areas in the rotation and we expect this to do wonderful things for our pasture.
